Rick and Morty fans can rejoice as the hit animated series has been officially renewed through Season 12, ensuring new episodes until at least 2029. The Emmy-winning show has been greenlit for five more seasons, with Season 8 set to debut in 2025. This announcement follows the renewal of Season 10, which was confirmed just last year. The exciting news was shared by executive producers Dan Harmon and Scott Marder during a panel at New York Comic Con. They were joined by cast members Harry Belden, Ian Cardoni, Sarah Chalke, Spencer Grammer, and Chris Parnell.
In a statement, Michael Ouweleen, president of Adult Swim, praised the show’s creative team: “From Season One, Rick and Morty set a new standard in adult animation and has shown no signs of stopping. Dan, Scott, and the immensely talented team behind the show keep raising the bar. I, like millions of fans worldwide, am eagerly anticipating more adventures.” Harmon echoed the excitement, saying, “Nobody wants a universe without Rick and Morty. Fortunately, the list of places to go remains infinite.”
Continuing the Adventures Without Justin Roiland
The upcoming seasons will continue to follow the zany interdimensional adventures of mad scientist Rick Sanchez and his reluctant grandson Morty Smith. However, the show has undergone a significant casting change. Co-creator Justin Roiland, who originally voiced both Rick and Morty, was fired in 2023 following allegations of felony domestic battery and false imprisonment. Although the charges were later dropped, Roiland was replaced by Ian Cardoni as Rick and Harry Belden as Morty.
Despite the controversy, Rick and Morty has maintained its momentum, and fans can look forward to more chaotic, mind-bending escapades. Stay tuned for updates on the highly anticipated future seasons.
