HBO has officially renewed Dune: Prophecy for a second season. The announcement was made during a virtual press conference earlier this week, just ahead of the first season’s finale, which airs on Sunday, December 22.
Set 10,000 years before the events of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, the prequel series explores the origins of the Bene Gesserit, the enigmatic order of witches influencing the politics of Arrakis. The series is inspired by Sisterhood of Dune, a novel by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. At its center are Valya Harkonnen, portrayed by Emily Watson, and Tula Harkonnen, played by Olivia Williams. As leaders of the Bene Gesserit, the two face forces threatening humankind while laying the groundwork for the infamous House Harkonnen, which plays a pivotal role in the betrayal of Paul Atreides in the original Dune story.
The cast includes Mark Strong as Emperor Javicco Corrino and Sarah-Sofie Boussnina as his daughter, Princess Ynez. Additional stars include Travis Fimmel, Jodhi May, Josh Heuston, Chloe Lea, Jade Anouka, Faoileann Cunningham, Edward Davis, Aoife Hinds, Chris Mason, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Camilla Beeput, Jihae, Tabu, Charithra Chandran, Jessica Barden, Emma Canning, and Yerin Ha.
Produced by Legendary Television in partnership with HBO, the series has been praised for its intricate storytelling and deep exploration of Dune’s lore. However, the release date for the second season remains unconfirmed.
As fans anticipate the finale and await further news, Dune: Prophecy continues to expand the rich tapestry of the Dune universe, bringing new dimensions to its epic saga.
